The ball, the goalkeeper’s greatest enemy
Why does the goalkeeper get out of position? What causes the loss of positional play? Is it the teammates, the opponents, the playing fields? Every day we try to answer these questions that disturb us so much and cause an infinite number of errors in our goalkeepers. We analyse matches, training sessions, we generate clips so that the goalkeeper can observe himself and we still can’t find the solution. Next, we will talk about the number one reason that drags the goalkeeper out of the ideal position to intervene and causes all these problems: the ball.

The core of the goalkeeper
There is a lot of talk about specific strength training for goalkeepers today, highlighting its extreme importance in improving performance and preventing injuries. We hear and read information about working with weights, eccentric work with isoinertial machines, upper body work, etc. But do we really know how all these forces converge in the body, how the force is related from the leg during a collapse save to the hand that deflects the ball? Here’s the real secret to improving the efficiency of force transfer from all vectors: CORE work.

Reflections on the pre-match warm-up for the football goalkeeper
As goalkeeping coaches, do we design the best possible warm-up so that our goalkeepers enter the game 100% prepared? Do we cover all the sections that a complete warm-up requires, or do we simply carry out technical sequences so that the goalkeeper warms up? Below, we offer you a deeper reflection on the true usefulness of the warm-up and the orientation we are committed to in order to design a specific warm-up for our goalkeepers.

Decision-making in the football goalkeeper’s footwork
It is well known that in addition to direct interventions on the ball, footwork is the most numerous technical elements used quantitatively by the goalkeeper during competition. Frontal and dorsal footwork, lateral footwork, diagonal cross-step footwork, etc. But is footwork only a technical element or does it also involve tactical decision-making? In this article we propose four exercises in which we try to improve decision-making on which lateral footwork to use depending on the movement of the ball.
